We first started with four hives in the spring of 2021 but, unfortunately, one of our Queen's did not survive and we ended up losing a hive. In an effort to keep our bees healthy and happy during the long, and rather dry summer we fed them a mixture of sugar water to ensure that they are being well taken care of when their sources of food "dry up". This will ensure that our bees are able to produce enough honey to sustain themselves during the winter months and that they are strong enough in the spring to forage for themselves.
Since our bees are very much in their early stages of hive development and worker bee production, we have deemed it best that we do not remove any of the honey from our hard working ladies.
We are hoping that we will have enough honey this year to be able to remove and share with our customers but that is very dependent on how hard the year's winter is. We are also aiming to add four more hives to bring our total to eight by the springtime.
